Sony has announced its successor to the PSP, and from the looks of things it could have a chance at stealing Nintendo's handheld crown.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo is a whole different ballgame compared to PAX East. This is where the Big Three (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) showcase their next lead hitters, along with developers showing off what they have under their sleeves for the next year. What can be anticipated at this year's E3 event?
Going into this, I really did not have a positive attitude. Few of these PopCap-like games actually hold my attention. There are the random few that stand out, but the replay value is always short. Peggle is good for a play-through or two, but unless you want to ask friends to play then you are out of luck. (I always equate asking someone to play Peggle, which is like asking them to watch porn with you.) World of Goo was amazing, but I cannot be bothered to get all the OCD achievements. So it originally did not look good for Dwarfs?!.
Ooooooh yeah, don't you dare miss this all-new episode of the Boston Bastard Brigade, or else someone's gonna put the hurt on ya!
The first Portal title garnered a massive following around the world, thanks in part to its interesting gameplay, dialogue that instantly became internet memes, a catchy end theme song and possibly one the greatest villains in video gaming history. It comes as no surprise that a sequel was green-lit, but the task at hand for Valve was to up the ante in just about every way in order to make it as memorable as the first game. Does Portal 2 succeed as well as its big brother, or does it fall flat on the face of failure?
The Bastards this week spend zero time paying tribute to their mothers, and instead pull back in a comrade that hasn't been around much.
After taking a week off the Bastards are back to get into the swing of things...in their pants!
Brina Palencia is considered to be one of the more talented dub voice actresses in North America. Her work in such English adaptations as Sgt. Frog, School Rumble, Black Butler and Spice & Wolf to name has been considered by fans and critics alike as some of the best anime voice work in recent memory. This past Friday myself and a few other members of the press at Anime Boston had the chance to take part in a private Q&A panel with Palencia, where she revealed much about her work behind the mic and within the control booth.
At this year's PAX East I was able to get my hands on a demo for Swarm, the new title from Hothead Games (who brought us the hilarious DeathSpank series). From what I played in that five-minute demo I got lots of silly gore, cute little creatures and a good amount of RTS-styled gameplay. Playing the full version of Swarm I found the exact same thing over and over again. In this case that's not a bad thing.
