Section23 Films Announces December 2019 Release Dates
December means Christmas trees, menorahs, and whatever it is that Kwanzaa has scattered all throughout the globe. But when it comes to Section23 Films, that means samurai high school students, dirty jokes, and one of the best yuri anime of the decade are ready to be placed on anyone's wish list!
Kyoto Animation's K-On! is given the Ultimate Collection treatment on December 3rd. The Sakuragoaka Girls' Academy curriculum traditionally focuses on the three "R"s of reading, writing and arithmetic, but Ritsu Tainaka wants to add two more "R"s: Rock and Roll! To do that, however, Ritsu has to save the Light Music Club from being shut down due to little problems like not having any other members or a faculty advisor. After strong-arming her best friend Mio into joining and convincing Tsumugi Kotobuki to make it a trio, Ritsu's would-be rockers are soon only one talented guitarist short of the quartet they need for school approval. What they get, unfortunately, is Yui Hirasawa, who's never held a guitar in her life, but she's determined to learn! Will the school halls come alive with the sound of music?
Hitting an MMORPG has never been stranger and deadly in Seven Senses of the Reunion, also arriving on December 3rd. Six years ago, Asahi Kuga died while playing the incredibly popular MMORPG "Union" with her friends. Now, after a worldwide scandal that saw the game pulled from the net, a new re-engineered version is back online, and, to the shock of Asahi's former teammate Haruto, so is Asahi! As impossible as it seems, the virtual version of Asahi that Haruto finds trapped in a treasure chest has all of Asahi's memories, but with no body to return to, she's trapped in the game. And that's not the only mysterious thing going on in Re'Union. Someone is manipulating the players, pitting them against each other and forcing them to develop the games special Sense skills. Who is literally playing with their lives and what is their agenda?
Trade in your swords for school books in the Sengoku Basara spinoff Gakuen Basara, hitting shelves on December 10th. It is said that power can corrupt and absolute power often corrupts absolutely, so when Principal Nobunaga of the Basara Academy was distracted by duties elsewhere, student council president Toyotomi took advantage of the opportunity to wage a campaign of terror against other rival schools. Toyotomi was subsequently suspended, but the resulting lack of a strong leader has left a vacuum at the Academy's center, tearing the student body into opposing factions. Who will show the courage and fortitude required to take the office of council president? Baseball captain Masamune Date? Soccer star Yukimura Sanada? Opposing council members Ieyasu Tokugawa and Mitsunari Ishida? Or any of dozens of other strapping young students?
School isn't just about being the best warrior; it's also about getting away with as much filthy humor as possible! December 10th brings the complete collection (yes, even the very first season) of Seitokai Yakuindomo! When the all-girl Ousai Private Academy goes co-ed, freshman Takatoshi Tsuda finds himself in a situation that most guys can only dream of - one of only 28 boys in a school of over 500 girls! Unfortunately, that fantasy slams into a hard wall of reality when he runs into Student Council President Shino Amakusa and she drafts him onto the council! That might not be so bad… except for the fact that Shino, council secretary Aria and even faculty advisor Ms. Yokoshima are all seriously sex-obsessed, while tiny treasurer Suzu has rage control issues, and the head of the school newspaper spends her time peddling candid pictures of the council members! Will this lead to Takatoshi becoming a Big Man on Campus? Or will he end up as the council's whipping boy?
If filthy humor isn't your thing, then something more sensual may suffice, with the release of Bloom Into You on December 17th. Yuu Koito thought love would be something amazing and magical, but when a male friend asks her to date, she feels nothing. She doesn't even know how to respond until she overhears the student council president of her new high school, Touko Nanami, turning down a similar request. With Touko's help, Yuu manages to let her friend down gracefully, but then Touko confesses that she, herself, is starting to have feelings for Yuu, leaving Yuu in a quandary. Yuu doesn't think that she's in love with Touko, but she does feel something. As Yuu joins the Student Council, and she and Touko become closer, her confusion about her feelings only continues to grow. Because you can't control who you love, or who falls in love with you. You can only be true to yourself!
Amnesiac students may find something to relate to on December 17th's release of Golden Time, complete with an English dub for the first time! Getting lost wasn't how Tada Banri wanted to start his first day of law school, but making a friend of fellow student Mitsuo along the way sort of made up for it until Mitsuo's childhood friend and arranged future bride Kaga Koko appears and slaps Mitsuo with a bouquet of roses! Awkward. It's even more awkward to learn that Koko's now a fellow law student as well. However, "Awkward" is practically Banri's middle name, as he's suffering from a form of amnesia that's erased most of his memory since high school and he's becoming used to running into uncomfortable situations caused by actions he doesn't remember. Join one of the most star-crossed group of friends ever as they attempt to make sense of life, love and the legal system!
Lastly, for those who waited patiently in November, a deluxe edition of Haikyū!! Season 3 arrives on December 31st! The Miyagi Prefecture Representative for the Spring High School National Volleyball Championship continues as the Karasuno team advances to take on the undefeated prefecture champions, Shiratorizawa Academy High School. This is the strongest opponent Karasuno has ever faced, and the deck is stacked against them with an extra ace in the form Wakatoshi Ushijima, a powerful wing spiker who's already played with the National Team! If they want to win, Hinata, Kageyama and the rest of the Crows will have to learn an entirely new playing style in order to counter Ushijima and his seemingly unstoppable spike… and that's just the first lesson the Shiratorizawa veterans have in store for the Crows.
