Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 100 | Black Market Karma
It was on June 5, 2018 when Shameless Tuesdays first hit the Boston Bastard Brigade. A collaboration with Shameless Promotion PR, this segment served as a means to promote indie artists in a different way. On top of giving these musicians an additional voice, it also allowed them to showcase the sounds that made them who they are today. Since that time, nearly a hundred different artists have taken over this spot, with a couple even returning for a second round!
Today, we mark our 100th Shameless Tuesdays! Taking over this milestone is Black Market Karma, a band that fits with this segment's original tagline: Always unique, sometimes weird, never daft. Their upcoming album Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas (in stores September 29) is a psychedelic pop rock explosion. At times, it calls back to George Harrison's solo works; other moments are reminiscent of the recent works of Young Guv. But whether you feel "A Crying Shame" or a "Jumble Jumble", Black Market Karma brings out the right amount of color to a dreary world that needs it.
Here's what multi-instrumentalist Stanley Belton (whose brother Finley shares the band's workload) has to say about this week's playlist, which he's dubbed "Tunes that flipped my wig":
Not sure if there’s really a theme here other than these are songs and artists that directly influenced my music in some way. A lot of these are things I discovered at a very young age, music that really set me on the path I’m still on with my band today. It’s basically impossible to whittle it down like this as there’s essentially an endless list of inspiration that’s ever growing BUT I did my best.
I also thought it would be appropriate to end it with a Black Market Karma track. I’ve gone for "Who What Where & Why?", the opening track to our 7th album 'Plastic Hippie' and the closer to our live set. A song that always seems to go off live, no matter where we’re playing. Enjoy!
