MANGA REVIEW | "Undead Unluck" - Volume Fifteen
When we first met Fuuko in Undead Unluck, she was on the verge of ending it all. Who would’ve thunk that this girl filled with tragedy would be key to saving the world? But before she can save it, Fuuko must first witness its demise. In Volume Fifteen, Unluck doesn’t just return to the Union table; she now sits at the head of it!
In order to get the loop to start, Fuuko must stay seated while Juiz, Andy, and the other Negators fight off God. Eleven minutes are what’s needed to initiate the loop, which doesn’t sound like much at first. However, as Fuuko sits, she bears witness to the monstrosity that her friends wind up fighting. And trust me: God is no pushover!
For the first time, Undead Unluck unveils what God looks like. A massive black behemoth with lava puss bubbling all over Their body, it’s certainly the most unique take on the Creator. What readers didn’t count on is the fact that God has two sides: this Sun one, and a glowing entity known as Luna. And despite the Luna one being on the side of humanity, Their attitude is one that’s…condescending?
Perhaps most disturbing about Luna’s attitude is how They see this fight between Sun and the Negators: a game. A scenario involving the demise of billions of people is seen by God in the same light as a game of Checkers. Naturally, Fuuko doesn’t take that thought process lightly, as she roots for her friends all the way through. But full resistance is futile; only extra time can be achieved through this fight.
That’s when Victor begs Andy to be tagged in, so as to fight alongside Juiz. Andy abides, and they — along with the rest of the Negators — give it their all. It’s an epic battle that has everyone throwing everything at God. But even with a Superior Artifact in their possession, the gang can only delay the inevitable. Blood, sweat, and tears are shed, as the eleven minutes goes by at the speed of a snail.
Finally, it happens. Undead Unluck restarts its tale, only this time beginning with some events in the 1970s. That’s where we find Fuuko’s plan starting to come together. It’s a concept that allows her to gather all of her friends in the past, while at the same time keeping them from any sort of suffering they experienced last time. But with the plan set in motion, can humanity be saved this time around?
Much is at stake now, but now there’s all the time in the world to get this plan right. With Fuuko now the head of the Union table, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of path this new loop in Undead Unluck will take. Volume Fifteen may have shown us an endgame to the Union’s plan to kill God, but it’s not the only option on the table. One hopes that with a much more levelheaded Fuuko in charge, the right strategy to save humanity will finally be implemented. Knowing how Undead Unluck likes to handle its plans, it should be quite the exciting and twist-filled romp!
