Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 105 | Frenchy and the Punk

Frenchy and the Punk don't play riffs; they flick twangs! The post-punk duo has shared the stage with the likes The World/Inferno Friendship Society, Dinosaur, Jr., Rasputina. (Hell, the Dresden Dolls's Brian Viglione has even been their drummer for some gigs!) On their seventh LP Zen Ghost, they dive deep into the darker realms of their well-being, pledging allegiance to the "Church of Sound" and "Temple of Sleep". But through thick blood and thin oxygen, Samantha Stephenson and Scott Helland find a paradise for all to be welcomed into...you know, "If the World Doesn't End First"! With their zen in key, Frenchy and the Punk take on this week's Shameless Tuesdays!

Here's what Frenchy and the Punk have to say about their "Fascination Beat" playlist:

This playlist is comprised of some of the artists who inspired us (ie: Concrete Blonde, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Cure), artists whose members we have been in bands with (ie: Dinosaur jr, Outpatients, Sebadoh), some artist friends we have shared the stage with (ie: Black Rose Burning, Dust Bowl Faeries, Rasputina, Charming Disaster), our other musical side projects (ie: Drawing Hands, Guitarmy of One), some songs that we've been a special guest on (ie. Voltaire (Scott-nylon string guitar), Mark Mulcahy (Scott-Bass)), and some artists we listen to in the van on the road!

We listen to alot of different types of music, we both have very eclectic tastes, between the two of us, everything from old school Hardcore to Classical but we picked songs for this playlist we thought would work well with the feel of what we do as well as bring a little FnP history into the mix. Scott's musical influences are a mile long, and one that he was heavily influenced by was The Cure and the way they layered the guitars. Samantha always gravitated toward singers with a lower register like Johnette Napolitano and she gets "You remind me of Siouxsie Sioux" at every single show! We included two older FnP tracks, Lunar Frenzy and Dark Carnivale - which is a fan favorite and always requested at live shows.

Music has been a lifelong fascination, it can take you into the past, throw you into the future or make you stop in your tracks... no pun intended!
