Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 63 | Peter Colclasure
Peter Colclasure has left me speechless. The amount of beauty he places into his compositions is on a level that mere words cannot describe in full. Despite its lack of lyrics, there are stories placed deep within every song of his, in a similar vein that Japanese post-rock group Mono also resides in. Last year's album Una Corda sharpened his craft even more-so, with each song brimming with gorgeous melodies with every note played on his piano. There's a bright future ahead for Peter Colclasure, and -- hopefully -- letting him take control of this week's Shameless Tuesdays will help in some way to amplify that brightness.
Here's what Peter has to say about this week's playlist:
The theme of this playlist is modern classical, ambient, instrumental music. The boundaries between these genres are quite porous and arbitrary. The difference between music that is "neoclassical" and music that is "electronic ambient" is primarily a matter of marketing. John Luther Adams might have a different background and approach than Aphex Twin, but the end results cohabitate surprisingly well. Some of these artists have a background in the classical world, some in the world of rock music, like Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) or Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire). I love the variety of approaches the artists take, and broad palette of textures and moods.
