Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 43 | I Am a Rocketship
Take the elegant sounds of Sweden and inject it with some Southern attitude straight from the arteries of Atlanta, Georgia. That's I Am a Rocketship in a nutshell, whose melodies contain as much playful purity as it does tough-as-nails grit! Their latest album Ghost Stories (available April 30th) doesn't have that title just for kicks; it's jam-packed with some spine-tingling ballads and arias. From the folksy opener "False Impressions" and the charming "Crush" to the minimalistic industrial-like closer "The Spectacle", the duo of L E Kippner and Eric Weissinger stare down their listeners hypnotically. To prep their listeners new and old for Ghost Stories, I Am a Rocketship has invaded this week's Shameless Tuesdays!
Here's what I Am a Rocketship have to say about this week's playlist:
We've put together some songs that make us want to turn up the volume if they happen to come up on one of our phones or on the radio. Atlanta has an amazing depth of music history and variety, so we've chosen a few of our favorites from the Atlanta independent scene, like Dead Register, Nerdkween, Paul Melançon, and the more well-known Deerhunter. This city wouldn't be what it is without hip-hop, and while everyone knows Run the Jewels, we had to include a favorite because it name-checks the small city we call home.
Outside of Atlanta, even though DJ Shadow is justifiably famous, we chose a favorite track that showcases Ernie Fresh, who's not a household name. We also included some brilliant under-the-radar artists from New York, Greece, and Germany, and the indescribable Ekat Bork, who should be an international star. Everyone on this playlist makes our hearts flutter and we hope you'll love them as much as we do.
