Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 114 | Mari Dangerfield

The real world and virtual space come head-to-head when Mari Dangerfield takes the mic. Her latest album Love And Other Machines embraces a world of robotic romance and computer screen emotions. Even with humanity glued to their phones, Dangerfield is optimistic that the human heart will find ways to be quenched via online or in-person connections. The stars may be wrong -- and it certainly isn't 1984...that I know of -- but Dangerfield finds plenty of truth and soul in even the scariest of modern technology. Today, Mari Dangerfield shoots us a special Shameless Tuesdays playlist, one coming from the heart and some developer coding.

Here's what Mari has to say about this week's playlist:

The playlist is called 'Future Classics?' - I decided to curate something that gave a look into the breadth of music I try to immerse myself into.

There are some classic songs in there, as well as some big favourites from more mainstream/widely known artists that perhaps flew under the radar. Then there are the songs from smaller/lesser known acts that, in some cases, remind me of classics in some way. I've tried to sandwich these between the bigger songs in an attempt to invite the listener to consider their potential for more frequent listening. Sometimes, this might draw on their similarities, not to discredit the smaller acts, but to place them on par with their bigger counterparts so we can consider the possibility that maybe, if given enough of a chance, they could be future classics - whether to you and I, as we eventually house them among our favourites, or to the level of a more widely known act.

I'll briefly mention a few of my selections:

'Eureka, I can see!' by Novelty Island is just one of a zillion mind-blowing tunes this band has dropped, with obvious heavy influence from the beatles, yet still maintaining their own unique flavour; 'Dying to please' by Doublecream is one of just two songs released by the band to date. Their sound reminds me of several Bowie eras and a hint of Puddles Pity Party (in the least comical sense possible) yet I find the combination of glam rock and theatricality really exciting and look forward to seeing their next steps; 'Azadî' by Naaz means 'liberty' in Kurdish. I have enjoyed foreign language songs before (Eurovision being only one example of this) but I didn't expect to be so touched by the this one. I have loved Naaz from the start and this was the first song in her native language that she released, all about embracing the strength and beauty of womanhood - only emphasised by its juxtaposition to the women fighting for their freedoms in Iran and elsewhere.
