Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 67 | Ruth Blake
Ruth Blake has the kind of voice that can calm the mightiest of storms. With a vocal range that can only be described as "fairy tale-like", the Midlands-based performer nestles every tune close to her heart with motherly care. Her latest single "Brave Ships" calls back to her debut album Lullabies for Grown-Ups, with its arrangements mapping out her musical notes like constellations in the sky. Meanwhile, a remastered version of her Creation song "I Am" delivers a level of invincibility through a melody that brings about a victorious route via soft peace rather than brutal war. More will be coming from Ruth Blake later this year, but for now, she has graced our presence through this week's Shameless Tuesdays!
Here what Ruth has to say about this week's playlist, which she has given the title of "Inspire":
I have pretty eclectic tastes when it comes to music, but perhaps what I lean toward the most is other female artists who bring something that feels brave and honest whilst still full of heart. Whether it's PJ Harvey, Kate Tempest or Laura Marling, I love music that has depth and rings with truth. I also love music that can lift me up in a world that can feel increasingly heavy; music full of love and passion that reconnects me with the beauty of being alive. That's why I created this particular playlist, 'Inspire'.
I chose songs that make me feel inspired and invigorated, including a bunch of my own. It's predominantly female artists and predominantly variations of folk, but there are a few surprises in there! It also includes some of my talented singer-songwriter friends from the world of 'music as medicine' - a budding new sub-genre for those of us trying to heal ourselves and the planet - including Susie Ro Prater and Oliva Fern. Enjoy!
