Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 12 | Parabola West

If you want to have a guaranteed good sound, look no further than the Celtic scene. Combine it with any genre, and it's bound to raise anyone's attention. U2 did it with rock, Flogging Molly mashed it with punk, and House of Pain remixed it with hip hop; all of whom found much success in their respective fields. The Springfield, MA-born and New Zealand-based Parabola West (the music alias of Amy Tucker West) decided to go a different route, as she blends both Celtic and Nordic folk to conjure up a unique sound!

Soothing and epic at the same time, Parabola West brings together her haunting vocals with a combination of classical instruments and electronica beats. The end result is the type of music that will bring even the mightiest of vikings to tears, with harmonies that scream for power and coos for refuge. To celebrate the upcoming release of their upcoming single "Calling Your Name" (due out on December 6), Parabola West has taken the helm of this week's Shameless Tuesdays!

Here's what Ms. West has to say about this week's playlist, which will satisfy anyone craving the sounds of the Kiwi Nation:

Thank you Boston Bastard Brigade for the opportunity to share some of my favourite New Zealand artists with you!

I tend to crave songs that feel simultaneously spooky and beautiful, and there is something about each of these tracks that rides that edge for me. There is a thread of minor chords, atmospheric vibes & folk instruments which I love, and the fact that they're all NZ artists is a bit of icing on the creepy cake for me! I've included my song 'Do You Want to Know?' because it's both unsettling and fun, and 'One Step Ahead' by Split Enz because they are such an iconic part of NZ's musical fabric. All of the tracks feel like they were recorded on a misty day when the air was filled with magic.

I've been lucky enough to perform shows with Rubita, Henika, and Kendall Elise and to have Harry Parsons, Rubita, and Trevor Faville from Date Month Year perform on my last EP, so it's exciting to include them amongst my picks.
