Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 175 | Lowsunday
Even after thirty years since its debut, Lowsunday's Low Sunday Ghost Machine still sounds like something that would come out today. Is it because the world is still a bleak place? Or maybe the Pittsburg-based post-punk shoegazers just have a knack for predicting the music of the future, as evident by the White EP, their first new music in 25 years. At any rate, the electromix versions of "Innocence," "For A Moment", and "Overslide" add an extra kick to their melodies that work in ways that I doubt many would. Sure, the world sucks, but Lowsunday's still telling you to dance like you're going to live forever! And for a little extra, the band's here to give us their high Shameless Tuesdays!
Here's what Lowsunday have to say about this week's playlist:
The songs we selected for this playlist reflect a variety of different aspects of music we really appreciate and each influential in their own way. We tried to select songs based on production style and songwriting sensibilities that we connect with. The Brian Eno song, for instance , would be hard to deny as a shoegaze archetype. And classic shoegaze such as Lilys and Swervedriver. Then, the brilliance of Skywave, who we consider friends. The shows we used to play with them are the highlights of our early career and were always blown away by. We’ve enjoyed watching as they’ve branched out into Static Daydream, APTBS , Ceremony etc. - each one so amazing and talented.
The Hauntees track is something very new that we love - it’s possibly an instant , unrecognized classic. We learned of this band through Kath Eastham at Alternative Frequencies Radio - this song was in a recent set of hers and we haven’t forgotten it. Lastly, the inclusion of early electronic such as Visage and Xymox, Tear Garden. This music still resonates with us. Xymox was an another bad we had played with way back and to this day haven’t forgotten how good they are.
Throughout this set we hear these elements of electronic, shoegaze, post punk. We could go on about each band on this list and why they’re important to us but it would be way too long.
The hardest thing about compiling this list was because of the many songs we didn’t include… there are so many good ones. We hope you enjoy this!
