TGS 2025 | "Denshattack!"
Hey you! Do you like trains?! How about trains that pull off radical moves?! Fireshine Games and Undercoders certainly hopes so, as their latest game Denshattack! is bound to make waves (or rails) with how crazy of a concept it is. And at Tokyo Game Show, players got a chance to get a taste of what to expect.
In the ten-minute demo I tried, I was shown the ropes of how Denshattack! works. Players take control of a train and simply let it go into full gear. Roaming on the track, you must learn how to drift, jump, and switch gears in an instant. Get it done properly, and you’ll add a bunch more speed to your already fast-paced subway. But where this Jet Set Radio of the MBTA transforms into a Tony Hawk game is in the tricks and combos.
When you are flying high in the air, players are encouraged to pull off various moves to up their score. Flips, ollies, and other spectacular maneuvers are waiting to be unleashed within your fingertips. The sight of your train spinning around like it’s trying to win a medal at the X Games is not just funny; it’s also kind of badass! With that being said, this is definitely a game where practice makes perfect.
Controlling the train seems easy at first, but pulling off special moves takes a lot of skill. Only a couple of times was I able to drift perfectly, as I witnessed my train lose its speed on multiple occasions. As for the tricks, although it gives you the instructions on the screen, they were sometimes hard to comprehend. Did I have to flick the right stick in one fluid motion to make a sick move, or is it in a series of wiggles with pauses in-between? I wasn’t sure, and it was making perfecting combos very tricky.
Although the demo was tough, the wackiness of Denshattack! was enough for me to want to experience more. The cartoonish visuals, the crazy moves, and the competitiveness of being the best train driver in the world may make Undercoders and Fireshine Games’ latest one that’ll have plenty of fans becoming train enthusiasts. Considering how far Japan goes to make trains seem cool, perhaps now is the time for the rest of the world to climb aboard and take a wild, crazy ride!
Denshattack! arrives on PC and consoles in 2026. Will you choo-choo-choose to be a train master?
