Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 162 | Greg Amici
Don't cross Greg Amici, or else he'll immortalize your betrayal in song. His latest track "I'll Be Back" may give listeners Terminator vibes, but killing really isn't his style. Instead, it's a tale of returning home in the same vein as James Joyce or Homer. It acts as the closer for Greg's upcoming album Tragicomic (in stores June 13th), which previously previewed the wild and adventurous opener "Pumpkin Man". But not one to merely cure plagues, Greg Amici's got his harpoon aimed directly at this week's Shameless Tuesdays playlist!
Here's what Greg has to say about this week's playlist:
I went for an eclectic, stream-of-consciousness selection of influences and loves for my playlist. I included and then removed some lengthy recordings by Bob Dylan and AC/DC (“It’s Alright Ma,” and “Night Prowler”) because they were over seven minutes each and I didn’t want to tax whoever might play them. I didn’t think much about segues as I inventoried my brain, but I did try to group some types accordingly: Harvey Danger and Smashing Pumpkins for 90’s “grunge,” Roxy Music and Bowie for 70’s glam, etc.
I also wanted to promote songs by my friends (James Mastro, The Bongos, Elk City, Mekons) and friends of friends (Mott the Hoople, Graham Parker, Patti Smith, The Jayhawks). Shauna manages the fellows in XTC, but even if she didn’t, I could’ve selected thirty tunes by them alone, as they, along with the obvious classic rock outfits, are my all-time favorites. I would have liked to include some contemporary music, but though I buy the newcomers’ CD’s (yes, CD’s) to hear what the hell is going on with today’s youth, nothing leapt to mind. Finally, opportunist that I am, I included three of my own songs (“Girl Next Door,” “Cynthia, Come to Me,” “Remedy”) from my album Tragicomic,” which will be released on June 13th .
