Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 161 | Messiness
It's not a rut when Messiness hits your speakers. Quite the contrary, the Sicily-based rockers have a plethora of good vibes in their sound. Their first single "Previous Life" is a terrific blend of Britpop and indie rock from the 1990s, taking some solid cues from Oasis and Brian Eno. Even with a debut album due for later this year, Messiness have already hit the ground running with a truly psychedelic song that breaks them out of isolation! And now, with a good chunk of magic & mystery in their veins, Messiness have conjured up a multicultural Shameless Tuesdays!
Here's what Messiness frontman Max Raffa have to say about this week's playlist:
This playlist brings together music that challenges expectations by blending familiar Western styles with diverse cultural identities. Like Messiness—a project built on socialist principles and Mediterranean spirit—these artists use rock, psychedelia, jazz and other anglophone musical languages while infusing them with their unique cultural perspectives. Though English serves as the common language and Western musical structures provide the foundation, these sounds come from beyond the traditional centers of musical influence. As I hear them, these artists appear to reject the neoliberal uniformity that infiltrates even alternative scenes, creating music that feels both recognizable and refreshingly different. In my own view, each track seems to represent a creative reclaiming: established sounds transformed through different cultural lenses, offering listeners both comfort and challenge as they explore music from outside the established canon.
