Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 160 | NoVanGogh

They may call themselves NoVanGogh, but the songwriting/producing duo of Doug Sparks and Christopher Hastings knows how to create art. Their new song "As Long As You're Here" is a nod to classic Motown, made possible by the powerful vocals from Ginny Luke. Acting as a bookend to their last song "You're Right There", an entire decade of music is covered with plenty of precision and care. Now out to bring out more art onto the canvas, NoVanGogh have commissioned for us a nostalgic edition of Shameless Tuesdays.

Here's what NoVanGogh's Doug Sparks have to say about this week's playlist:

This is a mix of songs I grew up with and newer songs that caught my attention. The selections reflect my eclectic taste in music and songs that inspired my desire to create music. I’ve also music from many of the artists I’ve worked with, including Neara Russell, Ginny Luke, and Marcella Detroit.

It’s nearly impossible to name all the artists who inspired me. However, I can mention a few. Besides obvious choices like the Beatles I’ve included Laura Nyro. For me her songwriting and performances are bold, adventurous, and breathtaking. And I’ve always enjoyed the sounds of Sergio Mendez and Brazil ‘66. Their cover of “The Fool on the Hill” is one of the best Beatles covers I’ve come across. I hope others enjoy this playlist and discover some music they have never heard before.
