Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 159 | Push Puppets
They may be called Push Puppets, but no one's pulling their strings. Their latest single "All Together on 3" is a peek at their upcoming album Tethered Together (in stores May 16) dives deep into oceanic melodies. With Beatles-like string sections and Blur-styled arrangements, "All Together on 3" balances life's happier and heart-wrenching moments in a mixture of beauty. Shit may get tough, but the song reminds us that the light overhead is merely a finger's length away. Although it'll be a couple of more months before we see what Push Puppets have tethered together on their new record, they've at least packed for us a Shameless Tuesdays to help bide the waiting time.

The playlist is a mix of the music that caught my ear over the years and likely had some impact on my writing. Things like ELO and Cheap Trick have certainly affected the sound of Push Puppets as an indie pop/rock band that utilizes a string quartet heavily on their latest album. I'm a sucker for melodic hooks and you'll find them in abundance in this playlist.
I was a big Replacements fan in my younger days and a rabid Tragically Hip fan after college so they both made the list with one of my favorites from each. I'm such an Elvis Costello fan that I have a slice of pizza that he handed me preserved in epoxy, so he had to make the playlist. I love mid-career XTC - especially the Skylarking album, so I've included "1000 Umbrellas", which somewhat inspired the strings in the new single "All Together On 3".
