MANGA REVIEW | "Let’s Do It Already!" - Volume Three
In the third volume of Let’s Do It Already!, some important questions are asked about relationships. How do you make your beloved happy? When a fight happens, how do you resolve it? What would you do in order to see the one you love every day? These questions are very important indeed, but as we see with Yuri and Keiichiro, their answers aren’t all filled with common sense.
How does Keiichiro make Yuri happy? The answer: by switching out the school trip from a fantastic theme park to a mere night in the mountains. Stupid points: 67. Although Yuri is slightly happy, it does come at the cost of upsetting her fellow classmates. That is, until her female classmates reveal that going to the mountains with rich bachelors is brat! In the end, the change winds up being for the better.
With that being said, it doesn’t stop Yuri from yelling at Keiichiro, meaning the biggest fight yet in Let’s Do It Already! occurs. So how do they resolve this situation? For Yuri, it’s coming face-to-face with Keiichiro at night, cuddling close to him as she opens her heart to him. Stupid points: 0. This is the smart thing to do, as it avoids any future tension. As for Keiichiro, he forgives her by giving what he believes is the best alternative to when they can’t see each other: a rhinoceros beetle, which adds another 182 stupid points for the clueless boyfriend.
Now comes the most important dilemma: how Yuri and Keiichiro can see one another during the summer break. Keiichiro’s schedule is totally booked, save for a single hour of travel in-between meetings and studies. Yuri’s solution: work at a convenience store close to one of his cram schools, allowing her a good chance to see him every day. Again, nary a stupid point to be found in Yuri’s logic, especially when she’s got a good history with the store. But when Keiichiro sees all the male coworkers fawning over his girl, he whips up another solution: have Yuri work for his family.
Surprisingly, it’s the first smart thing Keiichiro does in the entire volume. Sadly, he doesn’t exactly fill Yuri in with all the details, especially the one about her not working in the actual house he lives in. As such, another 56 stupid points for the boy, even though he had Yuri’s best interests in mind. The opportunity to work in Keiichiro’s household does come along via an exam, but a roller coaster of failures and successes occurs that results in Keiichiro getting an additional 312 stupid points. But hey, it’s his fault both not letting Yuri know the full deets on the job and for going way over the top when Yuri doesn’t automatically respond to his texts.
Yuri isn’t a genius, but it’s amazing to see just how dumb the booksmart Keiichiro really is. Granted, his heart is in the right place, but when it comes to things of the heart, Keiichiro really comes up with some weird solutions! Sometimes they work, other times it adds more stress to Yuri’s life. Nevertheless, even with Yuri having to deal with the most frustrating relationship anyone can imagine, Let’s Do It Already! still finds ways for these situations to be both funny and endearing.
But seriously, who gifts their girlfriend a rhinoceros beetle?!
