Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 88 | 22 Oceans

With the literal twin vocals of Carys & Keeley Hughes and the sound of Mike Guy, 22 Oceans sets sail for a relaxing dreamscape. Their destination: Home, the latest EP from the Britain-based trio. It mixes simplistic electronica vibes with soothing melodies, with a promise that the journey will be a smooth one. The three tracks -- alongside two bonus remixes of the title track -- conjure up visions of starry skies, neon reflections, and siren-like hypnotism. But before they make it Home, 22 Oceans are making a quick stop here on this week's Shameless Tuesdays!

Here's what 22 Oceans has to say about this week's playlist:

A wise man once told me, there are only two types of music in the world - Good & Bad, but sometimes you hear a song or a piece of music that simply consumes you. There is something there that takes control, moves your scenes, makes you stop in your tracks. A tune or lyric you cannot get out of your head, or is so poignant to something in your life, a memory, a few words that you can identify with.

Even though there is a large age gap between us and we have experienced music from different decades, occasionally our minds meet, and we’ve discovered a song from outside our usual listening sphere, that has certainly influenced us one way or another. Some examples below……

The Number One Song in Heaven - Sparks – Mike - I first heard this song in 1979 being played in a Woolworths, when I was 11 and was instantly hooked. My first foray into electronic music.

Where’s my love - SYML – Carys/Keeley - The first song of SYML’s that we heard. We love how the instruments on this track mix with the light and smooth vocals.

An Ending (Ascent) - Brian Eno – Mike - A piece of music that simply moves your soul.

Sleep on the floor - The Lumineers - Carys/Keeley - Reminds you to stay positive and to go for things you want, instead of letting opportunities pass you by.

A Real Hero - College & Electric Youth – Mike/Carys/Keeley - A song we all discovered separately, but collectively identify with.

Joan of Arc - Maid of Orleans - OMD – Mike - Another song, first heard on the Radio in the early 80’s, that still to this day gives me goosebumps, especially live.

Ribs - Lorde - Mike/Carys/Keeley - We all love the layered vocals on this track as well as the overall dreamy vibe that’s carried through the whole song.

Nothing's Gonna Happen - The Staves – Mike/Carys/Keeley - Again, all pulled in by the harmonies on this track and how they flow together, there is also a positive message throughout the song.

Heart of Glass – Blondie - Mike/Carys/Keeley – A song that shows that good music is always good music whatever decade it is discovered.
