Shameless Tuesdays: Livre 87 | Richard Evans
There's synthwave to chill, and then there's synthwave to plot. Richard Evans falls in the latter category, with his melodies fit for any espionage. His debut album Sentinel (available on February 25th) was made for sneaking through evil lairs and stealing government secrets. Whether you seek the truth in "Brave New World", embark on some mental training in "Trick Machine", or tail some suspicious people in "All Fall Down", Richard Evans has the right song for you. But within the futuristic beats are the words of warning from the past, as evident by the Hiroshima/Nagasaki tribute "Black Rain". For one final mission before Sentinel's release, Richard Evans has delivered a classified folder featuring this week's Shameless Tuesdays!
Here's what Richard has to say about this week's playlist:
"Some of the reviews for the Sentinel album and the Black Rain single have mentioned that the material sits in the tradition of music that reflects on imminent technological or ecological catastrophe. For this playlist I thought it would be interesting to follow this up and feature some of the powerful songs inspired by fears of environmental and nuclear apocalypse. These tracks represent music I first heard between the late 70s and mid 90s - a period when the fear of atomic war seemed ever-present and when politicians talked of âlimited nuclear exchangesâ and âacceptable lossesâ. Thankfully we had some great music to lighten this darkness. I hope you enjoy these songs from the end of the world."
